The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Healthcare is a body that brings together people from a variety of backgrounds to engage in today’s challenges surrounding healthcare and technology in a collaborative way. On 28th Novenmber the IET held a THINK BIG: Future Health & Life Science Unconference at Austin Court; their Birmingham venue. This central location was chosen to make the event accessible for delegates and following a focus of the event to be inclusive and balanced for all.
It facilitated the gathering of a variety of different people and professions, ranging from clinicians and engineers to healthcare technologists and user experience designers. The unconference highlighted many current topics around healthcare technology and had the various streams running in parallel through the day. Topics included: UX Saves Lives: The Future of Healthcare, Revolutionising Healthcare with Immersive Technology and Medical Devices and Data: Prevent, Detect and Diagnose which were delivered through talks from a whole variety of speakers. Discussion panel sessions featured at the end of each session, allowing more interaction between delegates. Naomi presented Chanua’s work with the Neuro Champions programme during the UX Saves Lives segment, highlighting the importance of involving young people in the creation of mental health and wellbeing technology.
I enjoyed the collaborative atmosphere of the event that enabled me to engage in exciting conversations with like minded people. As someone not directly from a healthcare/technology background it was a great experience to learn lots about this field and its future capabilities.
